We think it is important to
protect applicants’ and policyholders’ (our customers’) privacy and keep their
personal information private. We handle that personal information
accordingly. We provide customers with our privacy policy as required by
law. This is a short summary of some of the provisions of that policy.
We might collect personal information about customers from applications and
other forms, their business dealings with us and others, as well as from third
parties like the Department of Motor Vehicles and consumer reporting
agencies. We might disclose a customer’s name, address, social security
number and information about them or their application or policy when necessary
to handle their insurance business.
We do not disclose any personal information about a
customer to anyone unless allowed by law. We may disclose a customer’s
personal information to our affiliates and carriers, and to other third parties
who perform services for us, as allowed by law. We do not share a
customer’s personal information with any other businesses to sell products or
services to them. We do not disclose a customer’s personal information to
others except when we get their consent in advance, or when we try to get them
better coverages or prices. When a customer’s current policy comes up for
renewal, we may share their information with other insurance companies.
We would do this to try to find better coverage or prices for our customer’s
renewal policy. If a customer wishes to prevent that from
happening, they may “opt out.” In our privacy policy, we explain
how to “opt out” and provide several no-cost ways for our customers to do that.
So, if a customer does not want us to try to get
better coverage or better prices from a different insurance company when it is
time to renew your policy, they may tell us and we won’t disclose their
personal information to other insurance companies to get renewal
quotes. Opting out might stop us from adding important
coverage in the future or quickly replacing a coverage if the customer’s
present insurer stops coverage. Because we may need to do these things to
provide our customers with quality service, in our privacy policy, we urge
customers not to “opt-out.” A customer can opt-out at any time, but if we
don’t hear from them in the first 30 days after providing the privacy policy,
we can go ahead and share information about them as allowed by law.
Whether or not a customer “opts-out,” we protect their
personal information that is not public. We only give access to that
information to employees who need it to do their job. We will discipline
employees who we find out have used it for other purposes.
We allow our customers to inspect recorded personal
information about them that we have in our records. The procedures for
inspecting that information is spelled out in the privacy policy provided to
customers.
This is merely a short
summary of our privacy policy. Full details are provided to customers at
the time and in the manner provided for in the law.
